The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held the closed doctoral examination of Irwan Sudarmanto (NIM 20/468356/SMU/01354), a doctoral candidate in the Study Program of Doctor in Biotechnology, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at the Graduate School building, UGM. The examination assessed his dissertation entitled “Characterization of Recombinant Rubisco-Like Protein (RLP) Enzyme from Chromohalobacter salexigen BKL 5 Found in the Halophilic Environment of Bleduk Kuwu.”

The session was chaired by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation of the Graduate School UGM. The promoter team consisted of Prof. Dr. drh. Wayan Tunas Artama as Promotor and Dr. M. Saifur Rohman, S.P., M.P., Ph.D. as Co-Promotor. The board of examiners included Prof. Dr. Rarastoeti Pratiwi, M.Sc., Ir. Ngadiman, M.Si., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. drh. Aris Haryanto, M.Si., with Dr.rer.nat. The Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada is pleased to welcome Prof. Waranyoo Phoolcharoen of Chulalongkorn University as our new Adjunct Professor. Her appointment is effective from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2027.

Prof. Phoolcharoen is a leading expert in plant biotechnology with a strong focus on protein expression in plants. Her research has demonstrated the potential of plant-based platforms to produce therapeutic proteins that can support accessible biomedical solutions. She and her team have successfully developed plant-expressed antibodies and other candidate therapeutic proteins, which continue to move toward clinical and industrial applications. read more
