The Biotechnology Research Center of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Biotechnology Study Program, Graduate School, UGM, organized the Biotechnology Workshop 2026 under the theme “Genome Editing for Sustainable Future: Hands-on CRISPR/Cas9, Genetic Transformation, and Agroinfiltration.” The workshop was held on October 22–23, 2026, at the Pusat Antar Universitas (PAU) Building, Graduate School, UGM, Yogyakarta. The event focused on introducing and developing practical skills in modern molecular biotechnology, particularly CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing, genetic transformation, and agroinfiltration.
SDG 4: Quality Education
The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed Prof. Waranyoo from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, in connection with her appointment as an Adjunct Professor in the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at UGM. Her arrival was welcomed by the Dean of the Graduate School UGM, reflecting the university’s commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and internationalization in higher education.

Prof. Waranyoo is scheduled to visit UGM from 18 to 25 October 2026. During her visit, she will contribute to academic activities by delivering lectures and sharing her expertise with students in the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Biotechnology. She will also provide academic guidance and research consultations for doctoral students.
Yogyakarta, January 22, 2025 – The Study Program of Doctor in Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a comprehensive workshop on genomic and transcriptomic analysis using Linux (Command Line Interface). This event, conducted on January 22, 2025, was specially designed for active students in the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at UGM.
The workshop featured a distinguished speaker, Mr. Muhammad Miftahussurur, Chief Technology Officer at PT Widya Teknologi Hayati. Mr. Miftahussurur delivered an insightful presentation on Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and its associated workflows and tools. The presentation expertly combined theoretical foundations of WGS with hands-on practical sessions, guiding attendees through the necessary computational pipelines for analyzing genomic and transcriptomic data.
The Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully conducted the 2025 Sarasehan event, themed “Reflecting on 2024 and Embracing a New Spirit for 2025.” Doctoral biotechnology students from all cohorts attended the occasion, as did Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, Head of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology. This meeting aims to foster a sense of social connection and academic bonding among the students.
Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas delivered an introductory speech and explained the objective of the Sarasehan. Each student then introduced themselves and presented their ongoing research topics, facilitating information sharing and a collaborative environment within the program. Dr. Nuringtyas’ talk included smart recommendations along with strategies to assist students complete their courses on time. She underlined the need of keeping an active presence on campus to improve the academic environment and stimulate intellectual engagement. She also discussed the numerous co-working spaces accessible to doctoral students, such as specific spaces for Doctoral Biotechnology students, combined co-working spaces for Master’s and Doctoral Biotechnology students, and the UGM Postgraduate co-working space. These facilities are intended to help students with writing, studying, and collaborative research. Dr. Nuringtyas also mentioned numerous planned programs to help students and professionals advance their careers. Notable among these are the forthcoming bioinformatics workshop concentrating on genomes and transcriptomics data processing, as well as financing help for foreign seminar participation, which is available to all students.
