The Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Biotechnology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted an Internal Quality Audit (Audit Mutu Internal/AMI) on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. The audit took place from 09:00 to 13:00 WIB at the Oval Room, 2nd Floor, Biotechnology Study Program, PAU Building UGM.

This audit is part of UGM’s continuous commitment to ensuring and improving the quality of education, research, and academic services within the Biotechnology graduate programs. The AMI serves as a comprehensive evaluation to assess the alignment of program implementation with the university’s established quality standards. read more

A Closed Doctoral Examination was held for Dyah Widiastuti, September 7, 2026, at Meeting Room C, 5th Floor, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

During the examination, Dyah Widiastuti presented her dissertation entitled “Development of a Rapid Diagnostic Kit for the Simultaneous Detection of Leptospirosis and Dengue Infection.” The research focuses on developing a rapid diagnostic tool to support the simultaneous detection of two important infectious diseases, leptospirosis and dengue. read more

The Study Program of Biotechnology, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, is pleased to announce that Dyah Ayu Widyastuti has successfully completed her closed doctoral examination as part of the Doctoral Program requirements on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, held at Room C, 5th Floor, Graduate School UGM.

During the closed examination, Dyah Ayu Widyastuti presented her dissertation entitled “In Vitro Culture of Red Ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum Theilade) Using Fusarium oxysporum Elicitor as Anti-Salmonella sp.” before a panel of examiners consisting of professors and experts in the field. read more

Biotechnology Study Program, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held a guest lecture titled “Cellular Protrusions and Extracellular Vesicles for Delivery of Bioactive Molecules Between Cells” on Monday (31/8) at the Biotechnology Lecture Room, 3rd Floor, PAU Building, UGM.

The event featured Prof. Shiro Suetsugu, Ph.D., Professor at the Molecular Medicine and Cell Biology Laboratory, Division of Biological Sciences, Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan, as the invited speaker. In his lecture, Prof. Suetsugu highlighted the critical roles of cellular protrusions and extracellular vesicles in intercellular communication, particularly in the transport of bioactive molecules that regulate various biological and medical processes. read more

Food safety is an important aspect of maintaining the quality of food consumed by the public. Microorganisms in food can be beneficial in certain processes, but they can also cause food spoilage and foodborne diseases if they are not properly controlled. Therefore, an understanding of microbiological techniques and microorganism detection is important, particularly in supporting efforts to ensure food safety.

Against this background, the Short Course & Workshop on Biotechnology 2026 was held on August 4–5, 2026. The event, which carried the theme “Know Your Food, Protect the Next Generation: Biotechnology Education for Safe and Nutritious Food,” was attended by 32 Biology teachers from Yogyakarta and surrounding areas, including participants from Central Java.

The event featured Prof. Jose Gutierrez-Marcos from the School of Life Sciences, University of Warwick, as the keynote speaker.

This guest lecture aimed to broaden academic perspectives on recent developments in plant biology, particularly the concept of “plant memory,” which has become an emerging topic in modern plant physiology and molecular biology. The discussion provided new insights into how plants perceive environmental stimuli and retain biological information as part of their adaptive mechanisms.

A doctoral (PhD) student of the Biotechnology Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Ismail, has achieved an international milestone by being appointed as a reviewer for a reputable international journal published by Elsevier, Computational Biology and Chemistry.

The Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, will organize Biotech Camp 2026 with the theme “Doctoral Journey: Presenting Progress, Refining Purpose.” The event will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM (WIB) at Rooms A and C, 5th Floor, Graduate School UGM.

This activity will take the form of a Dissertation Research Seminar, serving as an academic platform for Ph.D. candidates to present the progress of their research and receive constructive feedback from faculty members and peers. The workshop featured distinguished speakers, including Prof. Bernhard Grimm from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, and Prof. Yekti Asih Purwestri from Universitas Gadjah Mada.
