On August 12, 2024, the inaugural lecture for new master’s and doctoral students of Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) took place in the Biotechnology Classroom on the 3rd floor of the PAU Building. This event was attended by new master’s students for the 2024/2025 academic year, doctoral students in their second semester of 2024, and new doctoral students for the odd semester of 2024. The event was graced by the presence of key figures in the program, including Dr. Dini Wahyu Kartika Sari, S.Pi, M.Si., the Head of the Master’s Program in Biotechnology, Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, M.Sc., the Head of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, and Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, M.Si, the Head of the Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada.
The first lecture was delivered by Yumechris Amekan, M. Biotech., Ph.D., an alumnus of the Master’s Program in Biotechnology from the class of 2012. His presentation, titled “BONCAT – A Complementary Tool to Link Active Microorganisms to Environmental Processes,” captivated the audience and sparked engaging discussions among the new students. Following this, Dr. Lusty Istiqomah, S.Pt., M. Biotech., another alumnus from the same class, presented on “Enzyme Technology and Its Applications in Industry.” Her insights into the practical applications of biotechnology in various industries provided the students with a broader perspective on their field of study.
To conclude the inaugural lecture, a “Tour de Campus” was organized to familiarize the new students with the campus environment and the facilities available to them. Guided by master’s students from the 2023/2024 academic year, the tour showcased essential locations such as the main lecture hall in the PAU Building, the Graduate School Building, the library, cafeteria, parking areas, and coworking spaces.
