Research Center and Study Program of Biotechnology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Host Workshop on High-Impact Scientific Writing and Publication Strategy

The Research Center and Study Program of Biotechnology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology, organized a two-day workshop titled “High-Impact Scientific Writing & Publication Strategy.” The event took place on Wednesday and Thursday, April 22–23, 2026, at the Biotechnology Lecture Room, 3rd Floor, PAU Building, UGM.

The workshop featured distinguished speakers, including Prof. Bernhard Grimm from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, and Prof. Yekti Asih Purwestri from Universitas Gadjah Mada. The program aimed to strengthen participants’ skills in producing high-quality scientific publications and navigating the global academic publishing landscape. read more

This visit is part of the Visiting Professor Program, aimed at enhancing research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and curriculum development within the Biotechnology Study Program.

Strengthening Academic and Research Collaboration in Biotechnology between UGM and Japanese Universities

Doctoral Closed Examination of Irwan Sudarmanto Highlights Research on Halophilic Enzyme Adaptation

The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held the closed doctoral examination of Irwan Sudarmanto (NIM 20/468356/SMU/01354), a doctoral candidate in the Study Program of Doctor in Biotechnology, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, at the Graduate School building, UGM. The examination assessed his dissertation entitled “Characterization of Recombinant Rubisco-Like Protein (RLP) Enzyme from Chromohalobacter salexigen BKL 5 Found in the Halophilic Environment of Bleduk Kuwu.”

The session was chaired by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation of the Graduate School UGM. The promoter team consisted of Prof. Dr. drh. Wayan Tunas Artama as Promotor and Dr. M. Saifur Rohman, S.P., M.P., Ph.D. as Co-Promotor. The board of examiners included Prof. Dr. Rarastoeti Pratiwi, M.Sc., Ir. Ngadiman, M.Si., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. drh. Aris Haryanto, M.Si., with Dr.rer.nat. Saefuddin Aziz, S.Si., M.Si. serving as the external examiner to provide an independent academic evaluation. read more

Focus Group Discussion on Curriculum Adjustment for Master’s and Doctoral Biotechnology Programs, Graduate School UGM

Publication Manuscript Workshop for Biotechnology Students – Phase I Yogyakarta, 4 November 2025

The Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, held the first phase of the Publication Manuscript Workshop today, aiming to support doctoral students in finalizing their manuscripts for journal submission. This initiative is part of the program’s continuous effort to accelerate student graduation through research publication readiness.

The workshop focused on an in-depth review of complete manuscript drafts from participating students. Each participant had the opportunity to discuss their work individually with the evaluation team, consisting of Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, M.Sc, Head of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, and Dr. Fajar Sofiantoro, M.Sc, researcher at the Center for Biotechnology, UGM. read more

UGM Biotechnology Student Completed Research Internship at Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan

The Graduate Program in Biotechnology at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada is pleased to share the successful completion of a research internship by Ika R. Sutejo, a student of the Study Program of Doctor in Biotechnology. The seven-week internship took place from 15 September to 31 October 2025 at the Laboratory of Functional Genomics and Medicines, Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan.

During the research stay, Ika worked on the evaluation of gene expression related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) using a triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) spheroid model. The internship provided hands-on training in advanced cancer research techniques and direct interaction with a collaborative international research environment. The experience enriched her academic and research skills, particularly in functional genomics and disease modeling. read more
