Yogyakarta, January 16, 2025 – Sista Werdiani, a doctoral candidate from the Study Program of Doctor in Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), is currently conducting research at the University of Kansas as part of her dissertation project. This international mobility initiative is a key component of her doctoral studies, which are guided by a distinguished team of experts, including Prof. Teruna J. Siahaan, adjunct professor at UGM and co-promotor, along with Prof. Sofia Mubarika and Dewi Kartikawati Paramita, Ph.D.
Sista’s dissertation is titled Methotrexate-Cibr Conjugate and Its Derivatives for Enhancing Anticancer Selectivity: In Silico and In Vitro Studies, where she is exploring the potential of novel drug conjugates to improve the selectivity and efficacy of cancer treatments. Her research aims to develop more targeted and effective therapies, contributing significantly to the advancement of biotechnology in the fight against cancer.

The collaboration with the University of Kansas is part of a broader student mobility program designed to strengthen research ties and enhance the quality of UGM’s doctoral program. Prof. Siahaan, as the co-promotor, plays a key role in facilitating this opportunity, offering her invaluable mentorship as Sista works on this cutting-edge research abroad. This program not only fosters academic growth but also allows for the exchange of ideas and expertise between institutions.
Sista will be based at the University of Kansas from October 10, 2024, to March 30, 2025, as she continues her work on the research project. The opportunity to work in an international setting is expected to enrich her research and offer new insights into the biotechnological applications of methotrexate and its derivatives.
This research mobility is an example of the high-level academic exchanges that UGM encourages, aiming to provide students with global perspectives and experience that will enhance their research capabilities and professional development.
