Yogyakarta, November 28, 2024 — The Study Program of Doctor in Biotechnology (SP-DBiotech), Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully conducted a comprehensive Curriculum Workshop aimed at reviewing and enhancing the curriculum to ensure its continued relevance to current scientific developments and stakeholder needs. This workshop was part of UGM’s broader effort to strengthen postgraduate education across all faculties.
Held on November 28, 2024, the event brought together internal stakeholders including faculty members and students, as well as external experts from partner institutions such as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), PT Dermama Bioteknologi Laboratory, and the Stem Cell and Cancer Research (SCCR) Indonesia. The collaborative discussions addressed improvements in curriculum content, course delivery, and alignment of research themes with industrial and societal challenges.
Participants also discussed the enhancement of learning outcomes, particularly in the areas of scientific integrity, research methodology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and interdisciplinary skills. Input from alumni and industry partners emphasized the need for more practical and applied learning components, including cell culture, genetic engineering, synthetic biology, and big data analysis.
Student representatives actively contributed feedback, suggesting improvements in course relevancy, publication guidance, proposal writing, and supervision systems. The workshop also highlighted the importance of personalized learning through elective courses tailored to students’ research interests and the need for stronger connections between students and potential supervisors.
This curriculum revision initiative is a strategic step in achieving SP-DBiotech’s mission to produce globally competitive graduates who are not only skilled researchers and educators in biotechnology but also uphold academic integrity and contribute to national and global development.
