The research focus of the Doctoral Study Program in Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada is centered around the theme “Innovative Biotechnology to Address Climate Change Challenges,” underscoring the program’s commitment to developing biotechnological innovations in response to the impacts of climate change. Through an interdisciplinary approach supported by various fields of expertise and key technologies such as OMICS, genetic engineering, microbiomes, as well as peptides and enzymes. Research is specifically targeted at strategic areas such as climate-resilient agriculture, health, environment, functional foods, and sustainable bioactive products. This focus reflects efforts to produce technologies and products capable of enhancing the resilience of agricultural systems to climate change, improving public health quality through biotechnological innovation, and preserving the environment with friendly and sustainable solutions. Additionally, the development of functional foods and bioactive products aims to support increasingly complex nutritional and health needs, while also opening up opportunities for the development of a sustainable biotechnology industry with positive economic and social impacts.
