The Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, successfully held Biotech Camp 2025, an annual internal event designed to foster research progress, strengthen academic community, and support doctoral candidates in their journey toward completion, on July 3, 2025.
In this year’s camp, all active Ph.D. students in Biotechnology were required to present their research progress in front of their peers and the program’s quality assurance team. The event was opened with a speech and remarks by the Head of the Doctoral Program, emphasizing the importance of continuous research monitoring and constructive feedback as key components for successful doctoral training.
Yogyakarta, July 2, 2025 — Arlinda Puspita Sari, a doctoral student from the 2023 even-semester cohort of the Biotechnology Doctoral Study Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, has successfully passed her comprehensive examination. Her dissertation proposal, titled “Enhancing Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) Drought Tolerance through Trehalose Pathway Modification Using Genome Editing Approach (CRISPR-Cas9),” aims to strengthen tobacco’s resilience under drought stress using a precise genome-editing strategy.
Yogyakarta, June 24, 2025 — Stefanie Santi Widhiastuti, a doctoral student of the Biotechnology Study Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has successfully undertaken her comprehensive examination. Enrolled in the 2023 cohort, Stefanie presented her dissertation titled “Tracing the Antinociceptive Mechanism of Aegeline in Painful Diabetic Neuropathy: In Silico Study and In Vivo Experimental Verification.”
Her research addresses the growing global burden of diabetes mellitus and its complication, Painful Diabetic Neuropathy (PDN), a condition affecting around 25% of chronic diabetes patients and characterized by excessive pain such as hyperalgesia and allodynia due to peripheral nerve damage. Current PDN treatments often fall short due to limited effectiveness and side effects, prompting the need for alternative therapies derived from natural products.
