Nowadays, nanoparticle-based technology is the powerful approach done by many researchers. Nanotechnology offers better biocompatibility and bioavailability. Thus characteristics provide better support for various field of research including health, industry, environment, food, and materials. Through that circumstances, Magister Biotechnology of Universitas Gadjah Mada held General Lecture: Application of Nanoparticles in Biotechnology and Biomedics on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Biotechnology Study Program UGM invited TS. Dr. Rabiatul Basria S.M.N. Mydin, a researcher from Universiti Sains Malaysia as a keynote speaker.

In the general lecture agenda, Dr. Rabiatul Basria S.M.N. Mydin conveyed various information including types of nanoparticles, nanoparticle’s development, and nanoparticle’s applications mainly in the biomedical for gene therapy, cancer therapy, theragnostics, and drug delivery agents. There are several things that must be characterized including particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, and entrapment efficacy when we created a nanoparticles. To increase their efficacy, several nanoparticles can be combined with accessory molecules such as antibodies, aptamers, and ligands. Selection of these accessory molecules depends on the main purpose of using nanoparticles and target organ.

Research on nanoparticles has been conducted by Dr. Rabiatul Basria S.M.N. Mydin. One of her currently topic is Titania Nanotube Arrays (TNA) as an implant nanosurface that has been proven to increase implant durability. In addition, she has also conducted research on hybrid nanoparticles (ZnO and CuO) as wound dressings agent. She has produced many incredible publications related to her research in nanotechnology. “Designing research and publications is not an easy thing, but it can be achieved with self-consistency to develop and looking for our curiosity’s answer” was her meaningful message at the end of the sessions.
